Help Byrd Students Support Our Troops in Honor of Veteran's Day
November 11, 2015, is Veteran’s Day, a day to remember and honor the men and women who have served our country. It is a day to thank them for the many sacrifices they and their families have made.
Why not do something to give back to them?
Jessica Goczkowski and her third grade students at Admiral Byrd School are spearheading a project to honor the men and women who are serving in the military over the holidays. The class is partnering with a local radio station, US 99.5, and writing letters to troops who will not be able to come home for the holidays. The radio station’s goal is to get 10,000 letters sent out by November 17.
The class is asking for help from the CCSD59 community in writing letters. Whether it is an actual letter, a thank you card with a holiday theme, a holiday poem or card, or anything written to help boost morale, your help is appreciated. CCSD59 students, staff, family members, and community members are all welcome and encouraged to participate.
All correspondence going to the troops must be received by Mrs. Goczkowski’s class at Byrd School no later than November 12. They can be dropped off at the school, sent in with students, delivered through interoffice mail, or mailed to the school to the attention of:
Mrs. Goczkowski’s Class
Admiral Byrd School
265 Wellington Avenue
Elk Grove Village, IL 60007
All letters must be received by November 12.
The letters will be folded and stuffed by the students, so they must fit in standard business size envelopes. Mrs.Goczkowski’s class will provide the standard envelopes, so there is no need to include an envelope with your letter unless it is a holiday card that requires a special size.
While teaching CCSD59 students the power of caring, community, and compassion, the troops will receive a message of thanks and gratitude during the holiday season.
That’s a lesson that can never be taught, or heard, enough.
