D59 Partners With Parents to Prepare Children for Kindergarten
Prior to a student walking through the school’s door on the first day of kindergarten, it’s important that parents play an active role in preparing their children to be successful for life. The READY! for Kindergarten program was created to help provide parents with the necessary resources and training to ensure their children have a successful start to their formal education.
According to readyforkindergarten.org, there are four guiding principles of the READY! program:
- Honor parents as a child’s most influential and most loved teacher
- Foster important early learning experiences for children birth to age five
- Instill children with a joy and zest for learning that lasts a lifetime
- Build relationships between parent and child and family and school
By providing resources, classes, and support, the district hopes to bring these four principles to each family that participates. Families that live within the district’s boundary and have children ages 0-5 are encouraged to attend. The program, offered in both English and Spanish, is free. Babysitting is provided.
