Board Appreciation and Recognition – 4.02
Wednesday, November 15, 2017, was designated as School Board Members Day by the Illinois Association of School Boards. In honor of the day, CCSD59 recognized and thanked our school board members for volunteering so many hours through service on the board and their ongoing commitment and efforts to make CCSD59 a great school district for students, families, staff, and the community.

Transportation Q&A – 5.01
Representatives from CCSD59 contracted bus services, Grand Prairie and First Student, answered questions from the board regarding safety practices, hiring practices, and how drivers are trained and prepared to safely drive school buses for CCSD59.
Award of Bid for Paper Bid – 5.02
CCSD59 issues a paper bid once each year for a quantity projected to meet one year’s needs. The board discussed the bids received for the district’s paper bid process, and the final award of bid will be voted on at the meeting on November 27, 2017.
Consolidation Considerations – 5.03
At the request of District 57 officials, the CCSD59 board discussed the concept of consolidation between District 57 and CCSD59. Through conversation, the board determined there was not enough interest to move forward with seeking a potential consolidation with District 57 at this time.
D214 Articulation Review and Success Indicators – 5.04
Elk Grove High School Principal Paul Kelly, Grove Junior High School Principal John Harrington, and District 214 Director of Research and Evaluation Jeffrey Smith presented the board with information regarding the positive articulation that exists between CCSD59 and District 214. Student growth data, student achievement data, and a variety of student success measures were discussed and explored, and more information about the presentation can be viewed below.

Approval of 33 District 59 Education Foundation Teacher Proposed Grants Totalling $18,901.97 – 8.01
The board of education approved the District 59 Education Foundation funding of 33 teacher proposed grants this year for a total of $18,901.97 to be used in various schools. The District 59 Education Foundation grant awards are listed here.
Approval Of Donation Of Golf Equipment From The First Tee Of Greater Chicago For Use At Byrd Elementary School In The Amount Of $3,250.00 – 8.02
The board of education accepted the donation of golf equipment with a value of $3,250.00 from the The First Tee of Greater Chicago. The donation is a set of developmentally appropriate, modified golf equipment designed and configured for teaching large groups safely. This golf equipment will be used as resources for health and fitness activities while lessons emphasize skills, concepts and the First Tee Nine Core Values: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy, and judgment.
